Maybe you don't think he needs to change anything and Rassie is simply being harsh.

Whatever you think, the fact remains that Rassie gave him a cap and then sent him packing.

To make matters worse he then went on to have a crap game against the ABs while Cam played like a demon the following day against Argentina.

And this is after last year where Rassie would rather play Kolisi out of potion at 8 than bring Roos in, even though Roos had been part of the training camps.

Rassie is still gonna be the Bok boss for at least five more years. And his stint as boss will end right about the time Roos might be starting to think about retirement.

So what do you think, should Roos keep being Roos? If you are his coach and think he needs to change direction in order to show Rassie more, what advice would you give him and what do you think he needs to evolve into?

Firstly he never had a crap game against the AB’s and by all accounts the issue with him is that he is too good at what he does as his worst stat is conceding turnovers thanks to his ability to make metres and in the process isolating himself making him susceptible to being turned over.

His Stormers team mates fail to keep up with him in order to protect him, so what he needs to change is that instead of trying to beat defenders, he needs to target contact, take it up shorter to negate his vulnerability

I love Rassie but his snubbing of Roos is pathetic

I had a coach that always hates when players broke the line and ran away from their support. Maybe Rassie has the same mentality not to lose the support structures as this can be extremely costly at test level

@kingcorn if you make a break and there is nobody there to support you, that's totally on whomever the support is supposed to be, not you.

I watched Kieran Read talk about this a while ago. Saying that when he was at the All Blacks, Hansen was quite strict on the idea that if you break for 50m, those support runners had better be there for an offload or to clear a ruck. You've created the momentum and the support need to continue it.

He has more turnovers from knock-ons than holding penalties or being pilfered. Also for a big guy he gets stripped a lot.

Like I want him to do well but FFS he doesn't help himself.

So, Rassie is the problem, not Roos.

So the advice thus far is to keep dong what you are doing even though it hasn't impressed the national coach enough to make you a regular member of the Bok squad.

This season is pretty much gone for Roos as a Bok. He's 27 now. Next year is the WC and he'll be 28.

@Pakie yes he did lose possession at times but the biggest issue was being isolated and turned over

The first is workable and I’m not sure why it happens as the guy is hardly weak - the second issue is team and pattern related

@Saffolk his biceps are too big, the ball pops out. I'm only half joking. I think these guys muscle up so much that between bulging pecs and bulging biceps there's no space for a ball to nestle.

I think BJD is not as bad as he's made out to be. Decent loosie, good option at lock, and an above average line-out jumper.

Roos should play his style, and I'm not sure he knows what they expect of him. He's not a Thor or Jasper, but more a Siya at 6.

He likes linking with the backline in loose play, and his speed is an attribute. Playing Open-side flank will free him up to focus on what he's good at.

@DbDraad good call Draad although I believe Roos is more than worthy of being in the squad right now, certainly ahead of the likes of Fourie, v Staaden, Elrigh Louw and BJ Dixon

@DbDraad jirre, Draad I know it's not his club coaches responsibility to get him selected for the Boks.

It's a hypothetical question with the idea being to see what you guys think would get him selected.

To summarise;

Dave says Roos should look for contact more because his biggest weakness is breaking the line and getting isolated which ends up in turning over possession.

Draad says Roos should keep doing what he is doing and work on basically getting better at and making less mistakes.

KC reckons Rassie might bet getting pissed at Roos for breaking the line.

MP rates he should run out at six as that playing style is better suited.
