If anyone knows Coetzee it's Jake.
He sent an SOS to Jones back in 2007 as he had no confidence in this fools ability. We saw an immediate improvement.
Jake is right ... there is nothing Coetzee can do to improve the situation ... he'll need to grow a brain first.

CC - White started off well after appointment as coach - but his second year s coach was a disaster with worst losses than those suffered thus far by Coetzee. Both White and Coetzee know as much about backline play as could be fitted on the pin of a needle.- so it is a case of one questionable coach sympathizing with a worst coach. As you said White's skin was saved by Jones in 2007. Bad news this one.

Mike, White saw he needed help with the backline, and called on Jones. That is exactly what a head coach is supposed to do. Get the best people around him to assist with all facets of the game.

No WC Winning Coach got there without the skill and knowledge to coach and manage people (staff and players). I don't care if the Coach does not set foot on the field if he can deliver the results that is good enough for me. Only in South Africa will you find these tiny minded couch potato 'supporters' continuing to moan about a coach that delivered a World Cup victory 9 years ago.
If AC knew how deep he was in the Shit he might ask for help. Problem is he has got used to the smell dating back to his WP days.

Do you guys remember our backline from that RWC in 2007 and the style of rugby we played?
Fourie du Preez kicked about half our possession away and on the rare occasion he passed it to Butch James, Butch either kicked it himself for JPP or Habana to chase or else gave to Frans Steyn who crashed it up. I don't think the ball went through the hands down that backline once during the entire tournament.
I think both Joke White and Eddie Jones were wildly overrated after that RWC win when in fact it was a very soft draw that was the main contributing factor to the Springboks victory.
Joke White's subsequent failures have confirmed his status as a very average coach and while Eddie Jones did a brilliant job with Japan at the last RWC and is doing a great job with the current England side, to imply that he got that 2007 backline of ours playing sparkling running rugby is just plain ignorant. They played low-risk, sterile opportunistic rugby which was barely enough to beat a crap England side.

Rooinek - I was in France for the 2007 WC and differ from you about backline usage. The round-robin game against England was a sheer example of running rugby and so was the game against the USA. The game against Tonga was a mess and so was the final. That is where Jake-ball was played. The final was exactly as you described it. Even Smit aid that if the England try attempt was given, the Springboks would have to try and score a try themselves. So in the final they NEVER even tried to score a try - that is typically Jake-ball rugby - what a farce.

Rooi
If it makes you feel better call him a Manager. Point is whatever style or game plan was presented under him, was 50x better than the shite that now makes my eyes bleed.
Watching the 36 zip pom game (with all the try's) was great but did not compare to being there again and watching and winning the final (no matter the style). I guess for me the result is the most important, style comes second.
I do believe that there has been no advance on this game plan, the result being a small part of our problem.

There it is again . . . I've been hearing it the whole afternoon today . . . the faint sound of some sad and pathetic creature whining for attention but not really getting any.

In that interview, Jake says that Strauss retiring seems very suspicious. Perhaps he does not want to be remembered as the captain that go down with the ship.

When it comes to fact it is something foreign to Mozart. Rooinek probably referred to the RWC 2007 final - that could have been upside down because the players played Jake-ball, not rugby,

What a load of tripe - the Springboks did not have ball possession onlu three times - the rest of the balls they kicked away, I loved this Steyn façade. He also missed 4 tackles that day - what a load of BS.

Shall I call it the Steyn praise song rather? I always believe that to post on this site one has to at least have an elementary knowledge of the game of rugby - but Mozart has consistently proved me wrong, His rants on this site consistently prove me wrong - inasmuch as even that most basic level is missing in his case.

So true, Redneck.
We won the WC in 2007 ... everything favoured our route to the final ...
Funny how we conveniently forget the absurd selections he came up with at times.
Weren't we thumped to nil by the Ozzies before the world cup?
I still rate Eddie as an excellent coach though and believe he would have made a big difference had he been selected over the bumbling Coetzee.
