The turning point of the game - we are camping in the AB 22. Dominating scrum after scrum. Yet we do nothing with that dominance. Milk a penalty, scrum again. Milk a penalty, scrum again. Ireland all over again. A self-absorbed flexing of muscle. The All Blacks remain one step short of crumbling completely, yet the scoreboard doesn't move.

We get a solid scrum, not dominant, but solid. Solid platform. 5m out. Williams waits. And waits. We want to fuck them up in the scrum. Again. But the ABs get the penalty. A few minutes later, try other end. The game changes.

Why didn't we play?

We are called mamparas whenever we doubt. Argentina was just a subterfuge, they said. Good old Rassie games. Yet I called Sacha's inability to create any structure around him against Argentina. Exact same thing played out tonight. We were a disjointed mess outside him. Our kicking game worked for a while because the ABs were terrible under the high ball. But that and the scrum and Wiese's barnstormers were all we had in the tank.

I said after the England and Scotland game physical dominance is no longer a given for the Boks. Scotland bliksemed us physically - in the second minute already Darge had bumped off PSDT, setting a tone. England had their moments too, damn near parity. We need something more. We need to play some rugby.

Tonight, what did we see out back? Passes to nowhere. Passes to the head. Knock ons. Sacha doing stuff that involves no one but Sacha. Strong scrums not being used as a platform for attack (what's that?), but for milking penalties to scrum again. Stupidity. The All Blacks isn't Ireland.

May this be a timely wakeup call. We need to get back to playing rugby again and respect the scoreboard, which is where you actually win the game. If you never saw a team resting on their laurels of past success, you saw one tonight, milking the good old scrum and the high kick and the charge into traffic because fuck it, what more do we need, everyone caves before us eventually. Not a hint of sleight of hand, of outfoxing anyone, of changing the narrative.

But this is just firing from the hip, I'll do a proper second viewing review. Much to unpack. Well done to the All Blacks, they were under the cosh for a long time and showed great fortitude to turn it around. Great test match.

Well said Pakie - we don’t play any rugby - we have great attacking 9’s that can’t direct games, Sacha is off his game and we have nothing at centre anymore - DA and Kriel have long run their course

As for v Staaden - how thick is he? But Rassie sees merit in him

Bok line breaks ….Kolbe 2, Wiese 1, Williams 1, Etzebeth 1, Esterhozen 1……and that’s all she wrote. Dud Toit 10 runs without beating a tackle.

We finally encountered a team, outgunned in the forwards, who played to win the match and never capitulated like France did a man up in November. We also got far enough behind that a scrum penalty and a Pollard kick wasn’t going to win the match and then we didn’t know how to construct a try.

At least after Kolbe’s departure we were spared the sight of Manie kicking to save the match.

The All Blacks scored two tries from 5m scrums (yes, against 13 for the second one, so take it or scratch it). Point is, that is a platform for creating. We didn't even attempt a play from the scrum, just happy to milk penalties. Under penalty advantage, a free play, Williams happy to just pick the ball up and let Jacobson wrap him up so they can scrum...again. No endeavour to do something, to try something.

Wat "hysteria" DB? Just because you Rassie Ja broers can't see the wood for the trees...

It's blatantly obvious that we need more dimensions to our game-plan. Maybe put a 12 in our midfield that is more of a play maker and gives us more skills?

The hysteria is what we read leading up to the match.

No hysteria, Draad. The Boks dominated for the larger part of the game, they just didn't respect the scoreboard. At one point in the live chat, right before the ABs got that scrum penalty, I commented that a yellow for the ABs now will probably be the end for them, that's how much pressure they were under. So that was the gamble - let's scrum them into a yellow. It backfired and once it did, there was no Plan B. Fix that, stop this tedious grind for penalties and cards, and use our dominance to respect the scoreboard, play some scoreboard focused rugby, things will go much better. But for fuck's sake get out of this "we're just going to bliksem them into submission" mindset. It worked against Ireland. This is not Ireland with Prendergast at 10 to step away so Sacha can score. This is a team that can actually hurt you if you don't turn your chances into points.

What an absolute joke.

We can blame individual players for poor performances, and the odd error here and there, but that will take the spotlight off of the glaring issue.

The Boks have ZERO, and i mean absolutely bloody ZERO, backline play. How many times did you see the ball go through the backs tonight? As usual, ZERO times.

How long have we been begging for balance? I've personally argued and for and defended the concept of balance ad infinitum on here. We have players like Sacha, Kolbe, Willemse...and yet, after nearing a decade of Sauron at the helm, and with the inclusion of the supposedly masterful Tony, we cannot seem to use the backs to capitalise on forward dominance. Pakie, Moz, it sucks to be vindicated like this, but it IS vindication.

Very recently on here, I said that all we ask is that when we are playing 15 against 13, and we are scrumming the opposition into dust on their on their line, that we perhaps turn that into some points by using out backs and taking advantage of the two-man privilege. We failed to do that against Ireland, and we failed to do it tonight. Why? Because we actually don't know how to. Let that sink in...WE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO!

Here is a line you will have heard me say before...the Boks backs are nothing but high ball chasers and rush defenders. Now, after tonight's performance, i dare you to tell me I'm wrong. Go on, tell me I'm wrong about that!!!??? Did you see the Boks backs do anything but chase high balls and rush up in defence, if you did then please do tell me when and what you saw?

Sorry to say it boys, but the Boks peaked against France last year. The scrum is now meaningless. Our main/only weapon has been removed from the board. The tide as receded and we have been left with our pants down because unless we can win via scrumming we don't have anything else. And now we look stupid. Clueless and stupid.

I'm not happy that the Boks lost, but I'm glad that the fanboys and cringeworthy "NO DNA JUST RSA" twats have been shut up. Perhaps this loss make them use those two braincells and realise what has been obvious all along.

The best is, I read a comment on here that went something like "Lessons will have been learned."

I have to ask, what lessons? Seriously, what fucking lessons? What could have been learned from tonight's performance that wasn't already extremely obviously? That you can't always rely on scrumming? We already knew that. That you actually need to use your backs for more than catching high balls and tackling? We already knew that. That constantly kicking every last bit of possession away will bite you in the arse? We already knew that? That the ABs are hot on rucks? We already knew that.

But it's the same old bullshit. We'll no doubt hear all the ambiguous jargon ever invented spewed out on here. It'll be, "One loss doesn't make Rassie a bad coach...it was just a bad night at the office...no need to panic the ABs just had everything their way...we'll come back stronger,"...on and on and on.

One thing i do know is that there are some of us that have been talking about exactly the type of deficiencies that caused tonight's result.

But please, tell us again how fantastic a runner in Traffic PSDT is and how stats don't provide context.

What’s even more frustrating is that it was not like the AB’s dominated us. They played when they could and we chose not to

Wake up call of note

Will be really interesting to see what changes are made if any - looks like we have lost both our wings for a start, so that’s two enforced changes but unfortunately in the wrong part of the backline

Firstly DB, if you want to call people "Hysterical" for valid criticism, maybe you and that absolute Mental case HasBeeno, should have a look in the mirror!

Also, what makes you think we can use Wilco's dominance at the end? If we couldn't use it in the beginning?

Agree with you, Saffolk. Rassie has it wrong in terms of style of player, but that goes hand in hand with the style of play.

For the first 50 minutes yesterday, we bashed the All Blacks into the ground with our forwards. But that dominance could not be turned into tries.

There was zero linking with the forwards who were carrying strongly, like Jasper Wiese, and ran off him into space to score tries.

So it's not just about the players, it's about the system Rassie is running. It needs serious tuning.

Draad it's hilarious to see these mamparas babbling on. I predicted exactly this nonsense the first time we lose a test.
We created a number of opportunities to score but silly mistakes ruined our efforts.
So many dropped balls. Where did that come from. Marx goes over to score but drops the ball.
Then the ill discipline cost us as well.
Now I am left wondering what would happen if we win in Cape Town. Oh yes it would be because the abs are a weak side or it would be because Rassie is so lucky. What a pathetic bunch of losing Mamparas. Bwahahahahahahaha.
Now ou Pakster wants to up his anti Bok rants under the cloak of giving us his "analysis". Anti Bok DUD Mozzietard can't wait. After years of anti Bok comments his moment has come as I said it surely would as no team stays number 1 or wins all the time. But to this buffoon this loss vindicated many years of posting material that was in fact a load of drivel. Bwahahahahahaha.

Pakster is most put out claiming that I call him and his buddies Mamparas for his legitimate criticisms. Nope I call you a mampara because of your extreme bias and anti Bok campaign. So biased are you that you can't see the wood from the trees.
But you are not the worst Pakster despite all your efforts. DUD Mozzietard is unquestionably the Mampara King and likely to remain so. Hilarious stuff from the Mamparas!

All you guys are forgetting the obvious, remember those KPIs that Rassie has to hit? Transformers or more like race replacement. Boks are too white?
Porthen, Sasha, Williams, Manie all tick a box. Yet the only two half decent half backs we have is van den berg and Pollard. Not flashy, but they are steady and can direct play. Imagine what Rassies KPIs would look like. No Kolisi, no Ox, No Fassi, no Am, no Mpimpi. Not that any of them was ever good consistently. They had their moments. Other than ox who are world class.

That is Rassies real problem. He has to select Williams that never started a bok game well. He gets harassed around the ruck way to easy hence why Reinach starts, he can handle the physicality.

Rassie game plan has always been on forward dominance and using the amazing stepping skills to counter , but his team's could never construct decent tries.

Look at NZ, they used the width of the field, moved the ball to the right, have a loose forward out wide, not to try surge down the field but draw in players, they are then able to send it back the other side with good hands and depth, what happens, Jessica Kriel and Williams falls off the tackle and and all blacks score in the corner.

Then in the 2nd half, Damien McKenzie go right up the middle from the 22, cut the field open and flat footed Dud and co are caught on their back heels only for a brilliant Damian intervention to knock the ball back and the boks got really lucky when Roigard missed the dot down by an hair.

The worst part is that the boks got punch drunk wanting to knock all blacks out with a scrum, but was most telling 22 entries into the 22, 4 scrum penalty and the All Blacks get their own scrum penalty and the game turned at that point.

Boks are very easy to defuse. Had the boks did same what they did against Ireland the ABs would have imploded, but they didn't.

But the worst of all is the arrogance to think you can built the first and 2nd best team in the world.

This is not a great all black team, but a team with skill and showed what half brain the boks really are.

I hope we don't see Sasha and Williams for a long time

Reinach and van Staden needs to pack it in. Why take Paul DE Villiers off?

Well, the boks need to turn this one around or we will never hear the end of it

@kingcorn No, KC, it's Rassie telling Sacha to kick literally everything, and that makes it so that when he does get a chance to actually do something there is so much pressure on it that he messes it up.

The Boks are under instruction to only and always kick. The only SA team that doesn't play that way is the Lions. Honestly, I'm so sick of this low IQ, low risk, boring and brainless rugby.

Very difficult for any back to shine in those circumstances.

For example, outside of AE running over Moorby, the best thing we saw any back do yesterday was Kolbe and Willemse catching high balls. In 50 to 60 minutes of our forwards dominating the game, the backs were never allowed to use the platform. I bloody hate it.

@kingcorn so earlier when he was simply irresistible and brilliant the world said we were witnessing the next big thing and now you are telling us he is not ready yet - come on for crying out loud. It’s not even debatable whether he is ready or not

Reinach was awful against the Argies as was Williams yesterday but they are not alone.

All our 9’s are great with ball in hand but they can’t manage games like a DuPont or Fourie du Preez - not a good thing when you are under pressure

As for Sacha he is an absolute gem we need every gem available to us. Yesterday he was guilty of looking for options before he had the ball in hands
