Ardie and PSDT's stats in Nations' cup.

Ardie and PSDT's stats in Nations' cup.

Second time now that there has been a comparison like this, and again it's with one of the Bok's best players, and again he has far less touches(opportunities).
It begs the question, who is hogging all the Bok ball?
Or do we just live in set piece and under the high ball?
Plu,m
Absolute BS using BS to compare theretical si.tuatnions.
Unfair....period.
No, it's valid, but there is context to it ...Plum already alluded to the fact that PSDT gets half the ball AS gets...the Bokke have been playing without the ball this season.
The discrepancy in carries is fairly easily explained looking at the stats - All Blacks dominated or had the better of possession in all 3 their games and they simply carry more. All Blacks made a whopping 533 carries in their 3 games vs the Boks at 335. They made 200 carries against Ireland while our best was 117 against England.
Even ignoring the comparison, the stats in isolation kinda reinforces every point of critical discussion we've had:
1 - not our most accurate tackler
2 - doesn't win turnovers
3 - not that dominant or effective into contact
But let the pitchforks come out, we know this narrative is NOT ALLOWED.
@DbDraad Ardie's ratio is only slightly better yes. We'll need more players' post contact stats to make a proper comparison. Very frustrating that this data is not freely available.
the Bokke got rid of the ball all the time...looks like they were practicing defence the whole time.
I don't agree with this being something foreign to the Boks. We're built on defense, we are on the wrong end of possession stats frequently - only 40% in the WC games against NZ and France, 39% against Scotland the other day. Even in the WC final 2019 England had the better of the possession.
@Pakie ...ja, it's not foreign, but it is deliberate and I don't like it either.
The comparison is fair...not exactly š & š, but close...both top loosies in two top tier teams, but playing in 2 teams with vastly different game plans...ours won us 2 RWCs and we've been Number 1 for a while now. Our game plan works...and there is innovation, but Rassie is a bit of a poker player, so he shows his cards in the big matches...the Boks has been playing very much within themselves for the first bunch of matches this year and with experimental sides as well... we'll only know where we are after the 2nd test vs NZ...I expect to be pleasantly surprised...time will tell.
Actually the comparison is unfair. Dud Toit is playing in a winning team with a dominant pack. Savea has to fight on his own to make turnovers and frequently gets the ball on the back foot.
... looking for the empty glass where there is none...2 completely different players with different roles in their completely different teams ...2 great players, no need to try and drag one down.
Here a straight up question....a yes or no please......would Da Allende have scored more tries had he played for the AB's?
On the fly, watching Griquas hand out a lesson to the Sharks......Lesson #1 is that they know where the tryline is.
Straight up answerā¦.to have played for the ABs he would have had to score more tries
He would never make the AB side. They despise the type of rugby he plays.
@Plum he didn't start out playing like that...used to have a great offload to his game and a better runner...he Started playing like that under Meyer and now Rassie.
The surprising thing is his poor tackle completion and dominant tackles.
I very much doubt that if you look at his 2025 stats the ratio of post contact meters would be much different. He's just never been a dominant carrier. What does pad his numbers slightly is his moonlighting out wide where he'll often be handed a free 10m.
Granted it was against Argies, but Cam made 95m almost entirely in traffic last weekend.
Steph has been a warrior for the Boks but it's pretty much common knowledge that his body is shot at this point. And he's not getting younger.
Assume for the sake of argument that his numbers don't improve between now and the WC. Does he get picked on "context"?
I'm seriously worried that Rassie goes with the safe bet of Eben, PSDT and Siya at the WC and it bites us in the arse because they not nearly as good as they were three years ago.
And hereās a typical Rooinek assessment of Etzebeth:
āEtzebeth won a single lineout steal in the game which is about all he has in the credit column, otherwise he was completely and utterly ineffective, permanently off the pace, coughing up possession, missing tackles and giving up penalties . . . not to mention getting an amusing dressing down from the ref for yelling at him and then trying to pretend he was shouting at someone else. But hey, wait for the rugby noobs like Omlett and Omellete to give us their ratings and they'll be giving Etzebeth an 8 and droning on about another world-class performance.
Lood de Jager completely outshone Etzebeth and had an excellent game and it was Etzebeth subbed off before an hour because of his total lack of impact or influence . . . but on this forum, we'll be hearing all about the magnificent Etzebeth and the useless Lood!
Not having a pop at Pakie alone here, it's most of the posters who have this slow, lumbering plodder as some kind of superstar while yapping away at the many locks who outplay him on a regular basis.ā
You have every right to think Erasmus is an āegotistical foolā and Etzebeth is a āslow plodderā. Just stop denying it
It's common sense that the a team who runs the ball will favour them scoring more tries than a team who favours kicking the ball...and so if Allende or PSDT is hypothetically in an AB jumper they'd be scoring more tries than they are currently scoring.
Is it obvious?
The last 10 Bok games;
Chat
"The Springboks scored 398 points across those 10 Tests, while conceding 137.
Points per game:
398 Ć· 10 = 39.8 points per Test.
They conceded 13.7 points per Test, giving them an average scoring differential of +26.1 points per game.
So their record over these 10 Tests is an impressive 10 wins from 10, averaging 39.8 points scored per match.
Springboks points in their last 10 Tests"
That's a lot of points and a lot of tries. Those ties are just not being scored by the Stephs and De Allendes of this world.
Malcolm Marx has scored 27 tries for the Springboks in 89 Tests, as of their 18 July 2026 Test against Wales.
@Plum hookers score a lot of rolling maul tries...and Marx is a 4th loosie as well...and the current WRPOTY...
@DbDraad I know
Ardie Savea has scored 32/114 tries in his career for the All Blacks, holding the all-time record for the most tries scored by an All Blacks forward in test match history
PSdToit ... 14/99tests
Savea has unsurprisingly scored more tries than some Bok backline players.
I see the mampara unioon of DUD Mozzie, plodding Pakster and poor Plumpster are at it again trying to prove Du Toit is overrated, Allende is useless and the Boks play terrible rugby. Rassie of course to these arch Mamparas is a poor coach.
It's stupid comments like the above by these buffoons that degrades this board.
